OBSERVATIONS

When first discovered, this image was presented as possible evidence for a group of geometric structures. However, the lack of detail in the picture (at 4.5 m per image pixel) was clearly exposed by the more recent HiRISE image of 2008 (26 cm per pixel), which showed that the apparent 3D geometric character of the features was in fact an illusion caused by insufficient resolution in the image.

POTENTIAL FOR ARTIFICIAL STRUCTURES

None. Picture satisfactorily explained by geology.

COMMON EXPLANATION

ACCEPTED - Illusion caused by insufficient image resolution.
